Composition

Aubusson tapestry woven by the Pinton workshop.
Circa 1950.

Back in France in the 1950s, after a long stay in Argentina, Berroeta then provided numerous cartoons in a style that was initially figurative (animals, characters,…) and then turned towards abstraction, as in his painting.

If he takes up the motif of fish, very widespread in the tapestry of the time (cf. Lurçat, Picart le Doux), Berroeta can claim real legitimacy in a subject that he has dealt with on several occasions, in "South Sea" for example.
