Countryside concert

Petit point tapestry.
Circa 1965.

“It will now be understood that, having based my painting on a love of tapestry, it was relatively easy, and quite tempting, for me to create a tapestry faithful to my painting,” the artist stated in the 1970 exhibition catalog for the Galerie Verrière. It was only in 1961 that he began to produce cartoons (more than fifty), both for tapestry weaving (in Aubusson, but also at the Mobilier National, sometimes with the collaboration of Pierre Baudouin), and for the petit point technique. These cartoons reveal the artist's very bold palette, made up of primary colors or, in this case, based on a very raw pink, with a narrative scattered between the main concert and the hunting scene, in the background.
