“First of all, I love wool, its warmth….In tapestry, I can use color and graphics… ”the artist will write in “La sculpture”, Paris, 1968. Known especially as a sculptor, Gilioli will produce his first cartoon in 1949, before receiving the Tapestry Prize at the Biennale de Sao Paulo in 1957; he will produce about a hundred tapestries, woven by the workshops Pinton and Picaud.

From the late 1960s, Gilioli's cartoons are exclusively geometric, bichromatic or trichromatic, and are parallel to the forms explored in other media. Our tapestry reprises here, on a smaller scale, the mosaic designed a few years earlier by the artist for the 'le périscope' building, a project by Novarina in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.
