Serenade to the Moon
Aubusson tapestry woven by the Braquenié workshop.
No. IV/VI.
1952.
Introduced to tapestry by Jean Picart le Doux, Poirier designed his first cartoon in 1951: he produced around twenty cartoons in the 1950s, to the point of being considered one of the great hopes of Tapestry. However, from the 1960s onwards, he returned to Painting.
“Serenade to the Moon” was originally a large-scale cartoon (190 x 285 cm) commissioned by Jacques Adnet in 1952. Our tapestry takes up the left side of the composition, reduced in height, and reversed, and the moon is absent. This fragmentation meets the needs of a clientele eager for small formats.
