While he first made a name for himself as a painter of large-scale sets (particularly for the stage), Carzou's forays into tapestry were relatively rare. This cartoon showcases the artist's characteristic style, characterized by interwoven lines illustrating dreamlike subjects: the theme is a reprise of Carzou's (only) cartoon woven by the National Manufactories, "Invitation to the Voyage." At the dawn of the 3rd millennium (and just months before his death), the artist, a frequent critic of modern society, held a singular vision of future voyages, focused on ballooning and sailing ships.
