Aubusson tapestry woven by the Four workshop.
With its selvedge, no. EA2.
Circa 1980.
Toffoli devoted himself extensively to tapestry, working with the Robert Four workshop from 1976 onwards and creating hundreds of designs. These tapestries reflect the post-Cubist transparencies characteristic of the painter, as well as his recurring themes. Indeed, Toffoli's tapestry is inseparable from his painting: the theme of motherhood, whether exotic or not, remains a recurring motif, regardless of the technique employed.
The tapestry is reproduced in the binder "Aubusson Tapestry" published by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Guéret in the early 1980s to illustrate the know-how of the Aubusson workshops.
