Byzantium
Aubusson tapestry woven by the Four workshop.
With its selvedge, no. 3/6.
Circa 1980.
Toffoli devoted himself extensively to tapestry, working with the Robert Four workshop from 1976 onwards and creating hundreds of designs. His work features the post-Cubist transparencies characteristic of the painter, as well as his recurring themes. Indeed, Toffoli's tapestries are indistinguishable from his paintings: Hagia Sophia and the Bosphorus guarantee a journey.
