The open sea
Aubusson tapestry woven by the Four workshop.
No. 1/6.
Circa 1980.
Toffoli devoted himself extensively to tapestry with the Robert Four workshop, beginning in 1976, creating hundreds of designs. These tapestries reflect the post-Cubist transparencies characteristic of the painter, as well as his recurring themes. Indeed, Toffoli's tapestry work is inseparable from his painting: a painter and traveler, he depicts in this tapestry a junk he observed during his travels in the Far East.
