Flowers and leaves
Aubusson tapestry woven by the Braquenié workshop.
With its selvedge.
Circa 1960.
A versatile artist (poet, lyricist, painter, and even antique dealer,…), Saint-Martin, Lurçat’s assistant in the early 1950s, designed his own cartoons from 1956 onwards, woven by the Braquenié company, with a dreamlike universe, both stylized and theatrical: here, order and rigor (the still life, the wrought iron balustrade…) contrast with the disordered, disturbing profusion of the side branches.
