Cambodian dancers
Aubusson tapestry woven by the Picaud workshop.
With its ribbon from the Verrière gallery, no. 1/4.
Circa 1965.
Largely forgotten today, Maurice Ferréol's contribution to figurative tapestry in the 1960s is quite remarkable. He established himself as a kind of popular image-maker, where the use of pure colors accentuates the almost childlike drawing of the figures.
What do these colorful, masked figures in extravagant costumes have to do with Cambodia? They are merely a pretext for a profusion of colors and patterns, in Ferréol's very particular style.
