The strain
Aubusson tapestry woven by the Pinton workshop.
With his bolduc.
Circa 1960.
Fumeron created his first cartoons (he would go on to create more than 500) in the 1940s, collaborating with the Pinton workshops, then receiving numerous commissions from the French government, before participating in the decoration of the ocean liner "France". Initially figurative, and influenced by Lurçat, he moved towards abstraction, before returning to a colorful and realistic figurative style from the 1980s onwards.
Strangely, although the title is naturalistic, the cardboard itself leans towards abstraction, in a sort of simplified version of Fumeron's figurative cardboards where we can still recognize the artist's characteristic sun-yellow circle.
