Composition
Aubusson tapestry woven by the Andraud workshop.
c. 1960.
Claude Bleynie discovered tapestry with Jean Picart le Doux in 1952. He then exhibited at the gallery La Demeure (from 1958 onwards) and took part in the principal exhibitions devoted to mural art. His woven work comprises more than 300 Cartoons, primarily produced by the Andraud workshops. Bleynie, working in a more abstract vein (which can sometimes be found in tapestry as well), notably drew Cartoons for carpets intended for the luxury apartment “Ile de France” aboard the liner “France”.
Also a theatre set designer, Bleynie created numerous Cartoons inspired by Dance, and brought them to life with masked and winged figures, in a fairy-tale spirit.
