Holger studied at the École Nationale d'Art décoratif in Aubusson, and worked with Lurçat before the latter's death, in 1966. He made many dreamlike cartoons woven in Aubusson. Established in the United States, he remains an untiring advocate and witness to modern tapestry, organizing exhibitions and conferences on the subject.
Some of his cartoons were woven in the two factories operating in Germany, in Nuremberg and Munich, at the point of Aubusson.
