Aubusson tapestry woven by the Picaud workshop for the Verrière gallery.
With its bolduc Signed, no. EA.
Circa 1970.
Marc Petit met Jean Lurçat in 1954, stayed in Aubusson in 1955, exhibited for the first time at La Demeure in 1956, and became a member of the A.P.C.T. (Association des Peintres-Cartonniers de Tapisserie) in 1958. From these astonishing beginnings, he produced hundreds of Cartoons in a highly personal style, where wading birds cross tightrope walkers in dreamlike landscapes.
Always with economy of means: broad flat areas and a tightly focused chromatic palette, for a singular subject—an astre deep in the seas, “escorted” by unsettling fish, and a remarkable dawn (a leitmotif in the artist’s work) at the beginning of life.
