Winter Sun

Aubusson tapestry woven by the Pinton workshop.
No. 1/1.
Circa 1980.

Michel Degand, a versatile artist (painter, sculptor, illustrator,…), has, over more than 50 years of creation, designed around a hundred tapestry cartoons, with a constantly renewed inspiration, sometimes dreamlike or "cosmic" (like Wogensky), at other times "technological" (like Millecamps), often lyrical, with a marked interest in the material, and most of them woven at Pinton's, in Felletin.

The sun is a leitmotif with the artist; but, in this fragmented composition, he resorts, as Sautour-Gaillard will in the 90s, to reweaving (with a finer point), as if glued into the motif, fragments of old tapestries, provoking unusual confrontations.
