Tapestry from Aubusson woven by the Four workshop. With its bolduc Signed, No. EA. Circa 1960.
Fumeron made his first Cartoons (of which he would produce more than 500) from the 1940s onward, collaborating with the workshops Pinton, then receiving numerous commissions from the State, before taking part in the decoration of the liner « France ». First figurative and influenced by Lurçat, he moved toward abstraction, before returning to a brightly colored and realistic figuration from the 1980s.
A touch of exoticism returned occasionally in the 1960s in Fumeron’s work: one thinks of his cartoons “Osaka”, “Samouraï” or “la mousson”. There is, however, no literal evocation: the partially obscured circle (Foliate sun?) remains a leitmotif, whatever the title.
