Tapestry in petit point.
c. 1965.

"We shall now understand that, after having founded a painting on my love of tapestry, it was relatively easy—and most tempting—for me to build a tapestry faithful to my painting," the artist said in the 1970 exhibition catalogue for the Galerie Verrière. It was only in 1961 that he began producing cartoons (more than fifty), both for the high-warp tapestry technique (in Aubusson, but also at the Mobilier National, sometimes with the assistance of Pierre Baudouin), and for the petit point technique as well. In these cartoons, we find the artist's highly audacious palette of primary colors—or, as here, based on a very raw pink—with a scattered narrative between the main concert and the hunting scene, set back.
