Composition
Aubusson tapestry woven by the Caron workshop.
Circa 1970.
Unfortunately somewhat forgotten today, although he was one of the first Lebanese abstract artists, Assem Stétié (he was the brother of the better-known poet and critic Saleh Stétié, closely associated with many artists) produced a personal body of work that was both lyrical and controlled, made up of signs in pure colours—a form of his own personal calligraphy—particularly in the 1970s, from which we can date our tapestry.
