Composition
Aubusson tapestry woven by the Andraud workshop.
Circa 1960.
Claude Bleynie discovered the tapestrySerie with Jean Picart le Doux in 1952. He then exhibited at the Galerie La Demeure (from 1958 onward) and took part in the major exhibitions devoted to mural art. His woven work represents more than 300 cartoons, published primarily by the Andraud workshops. Bleynie, in a more abstract vein (which is also found at times in tapestrySerie), notably drew tapestry cartoons intended for the grand-luxury apartment “Ile de France” aboard the liner “France”.
Also active as a theater decorator, Bleynie designed many cartoons inspired by Dance, featuring masked and winged figures, in a fairy-like spirit.
