In the 1980s, the Aubusson tapestry was losing momentum. Public authorities then drew up a Tapestry revival plan, of which Daniel Riberzani would be one of the beneficiaries, as the first recipient of a scholarship from the Centre national des arts plastiques for tapestry: at Aubusson, at the ENAD, he discovered the medium, adopted—at the beginning of his career—the Numbered Cartoon, forged links in the workshops… ; he would later receive public commissions, for the Gobelins, for the Carpeaux space in Courbevoie (« La Musique et la Danse », a 160 m2 tapestry !),… Thematic series, measured against his pictorial work, followed one another: « landscape-events », « intime paintings », « writings », « painted cartoons », …. These, papers that were pasted and painted in 1993–1994, were designed for a possible textile translation (as tapestries, as rugs, depending); « Cartoon 28 », from 1993, consists of colorful pinned words, serving as a border for a neutral grey central ground and—if there was no « Tapis ou Tapisserie 28 », the artist had details woven, in which « Henri » appears alongside, fragmentarily, « éruption » and « soufre »: a tapestry of the margins.
