Holger was a student at the École Nationale d'Art décoratif in Aubusson, and he worked with Lurçat before the latter's death in 1966. He produced numerous dreamlike cartoons woven in Aubusson. Based in the United States, he remained an tireless advocate, and witness, for modern tapestry, organizing exhibitions and conferences on the subject.

Some of his cartoons were woven in the two active manufactories in Germany, in Nuremberg and Munich, at the Aubusson point.
