An all-round artist who, however, said that he was « neither a painter, nor a draughtsman, nor a poster artist, nor a writer, nor an engraver. I am neither abstract nor figurative. …
I don’t understand my images, and everyone is free to understand them as they wish. I have simply tried to fix my own dreams, in the hope that others will attach theirs to them », Folon achieved incredible success, since the illustrations for the major American magazines in the 1960s, the many posters, the works shown at the Venice and Sao Paulo biennials, the credits for Antenne2,…Nothing surprising, then, that he should have taken an interest in tapestry as well (his largest composition, 80 m² shown at the Centre des Congrès in Monaco, woven, like the others, by the Four workshop), in its clear, measured style, and whose inspiration is not unlike that of his fellow countryman Magritte.

The aesthetic of our tapestry is strongly inspired by watercolour (pale tones, gradient effects,…), Folon’s medium of choice, which gives it a specificity far removed from the creations of other contemporary painter-cartoonists. The eye-sun, a leitmotif in Folon, over a landscape, attests to his singular sense of dreamlike imagination.
