Composition
Aubusson tapestry woven by the Atelier Pinton.
Circa 1950.
Back in France in the 1950s, after a long stay in Argentina, Berroeta then produced many Cartoons in a style that was first figurative (animals, figures, …), then turned to abstraction, as in his painting.
If he took up the motif of the fish, which was very widespread in the tapestry of the period (cf. Lurçat, Picart le Doux), Berroeta could claim real legitimacy in a subject that he treated on several occasions—for example, in « Mer du Sud ».
