Rambouillet

Aubusson tapestry woven by the Pinton workshop.
With his signed label by the artist, n°1/6. Circa 1970. Perrot began his career as a cartoonist after the war, producing nearly 500 cartoons, with numerous commissions from the State, most of them woven by Aubusson. His eminently decorative and iridescent style is highly characteristic: a profusion of butterflies or birds, most often set against a vegetal ground, in the spirit of mille-fleurs tapestries (from which Dom Robert also draws inspiration). René Perrot is, for the most part, an animal artist who usually stylizes. Here, his decorative vein is offset by the extremely realistic treatment of the stag, unusual in post-war tapestry. The cartoon’s title refers to the great French hunts that he illustrated extensively, for example in “Sologne”, deposited at the Musée de la Chasse de Gien by the Mobilier National.
